Decline Roman Empire

During its first two centuries, the Roman Empire was a powerful and successful civilization. It was successful because of a flourishing economy, well trained and loyal army, and an efficient form of government. However, as the empire became too large to govern, it eventually split into two, the Western and Eastern, and due to various economic, military, and political reasons, the empire declined to a level where the Western Empire even fell to foreign invaders. One of the reasons the Roman Empire fell was due to economic causes. The government increased taxes to support the army and bureaucracy. Because of the tax increase, it weakened the empire even more. Many people didn’t have enough money or want to pay the high taxes. Unemployment also a factor that caused the fall of the Roman Empire. For example, the government became more and more harsh. One of the ways the government was being harsh was because of imposing higher taxes on people. Because of this, the government started to lose support by the citizens. The government also started abusing their power. For example, the tax money that the citizens paid was used to fix roads and put into their bank accounts rather than using the money for necessities that could’ve made the Roman Empire successful again. Rome divided into two empires: The Eastern and Western Empire due to the large civilization. “The two empires failed to work together when it came to fighting outside threats.” And finally, the government lacked an organized system of succession.
