The Declaration of Independence of the United States was made to inform the world that 13 united colonies of America were now free from Great Britain. It also explains why America decided to separate from the British and that their reasons why justifiable. America was now free to do anything that other independent states had to right to do. The newly states believed that God would provide them with a protection while trying to establish a form of government. There are two historians that interpreted what the Declaration of Independence meant to them, by the names of Bernard Bailyn and Howard Zinn.…
This Declaration of Independence makes America different from its enemies. There are four main points to the Declaration of Independence; equality, consent, duty, and the 26 convictions of the King of England. Equality is very important in both founding documents. For Thomas Paine, equality meant voting on their ruler instead of hereditary rule. In the Declaration equality is freedom to think, and equally protected rights such as, life, liberty, justice, and the pursuit of happiness.…
The Declaration of Independence The Declaration of Independence is the document that declares that the United States are separate from Great Britain. It is important because we are declared separate and it gives us certain rights and freedoms. It shows that the people have a word in the government and freedom in this country. The Declaration of Independence uses many of the enlightenment thinkers’ ideas and their ideas affected how it was created.…
In his historical document, The Declaration of Independence (1776), Thomas Jefferson declared that all men were created equally and that there were certain unalienable rights that governments should never violate. Jefferson supported his claim by writing the Declaration of Independence which was adopted by the Second Continental Congress. His purpose was to explain to foreign nations why the colonies have chosen to separate themselves from Great Britain. Unlike the other founding documents, the Declaration of Independence is not legally binding, but it is tremendously powerful.…
The Founding Fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence on July 4,1776 to explain the colonists opinion on why they wanted to become independent from Great Britain. The reason the colonist wanted to be independent from Great Britain was because of the taxes that were being handed to the colonist for multiple reasons. The Declaration of Independence declared Americans three rights which are life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. This document had been signed on July of 1776 and marked the official separation between the 13 colonies and Great Britain. Then also the Declaration of Independence outlined the history of abuses the colonist had suffered under the British rule.…
Ratifying the American Constitution in 1788, was the start of creating an effective national government. The process, however, was not easy considering the issues that arise, especially with the Founding Fathers. They believed to govern unified people that possessed virtue and natural aristocracy they would govern the country in the public’s interest. However, that did not happen automatically due to the illogicality views of not only the Founding Fathers but the state representatives. The virtue of men and women were different, women supposedly more domestic and privet, men were sophisticated and public.…
Even before its establishment, the United States was known for being the embodiment of functional multi-culturalism. In his 1791 book, Rights of Man, Thomas Paine characterizes America as being a nation of egalitarianism and unity. Paine describes the incredibility of the seemingly “diverse” nation, comprised of those from differing religions and countries of origin. Many today argue that with time, the United States still stands to be the ultimate archetype of equality. However, those with this impression are really looking through rose-colored glasses, as this view of America starkly contrasts with reality.…
In Thomas Paine’s Rights of Man, Paine characterizes America as a country with a heterogenous government whose actions result in societal unison. The country is composed of various groups of people, in terms of race, gender, and socioeconomic classes. The wealthy and poor differ from each other, but live in harmony, all due to a “just government” (2). America’s government is based on the fundamental rights of man, which speak to members of all societies. The government is composed of representation of the people; these people are each representative spokespersons for people with likeminded views, and when such people interact with each other, they discuss their quandaries and concerns in a way that is fair and equitable to each representative.…
The Declaration of Independence in 1776 announced the independence of the thirteen British colonies from British rule, becoming instead newly independent sovereign states. The Declaration of Independence states that all men are created equal, and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. This passage represents the view of Americans during the early Republic on liberty and equally, and represents the standard of liberty the United States was striving…
Both the Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of Sentiments stress that integrity and respect are the essential elements of Freedom. They both also state that all are entitled to the rights of life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness. The Declaration of Independence is however referring to men, that all men are created equal “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal” (Jefferson 518).…
For many years, gaining equality has been an objective of many blacks in America. Having endured slavery, discrimination, and constant denial of their fundamental rights by white Americans, blacks began standing up for their rights and demanding those freedoms delegated in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The Declaration of Independence affirms that all men are created as equals and guarantees no person or class of persons shall be deprived of their unalienable rights, such as their right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.…
The Third Estate, the general population of France, is an unrepresented and oppressed class that Emmanuel-Joseph Sieyes tries to rally in his pamphlet, What is the Third Estate? , to stand up rebel against the First and Second Estates. In the opening paragraphs of his pamphlets he describes four classes. The first being one that collects the raw materials, the second sculpts the materials into valuables, the third class packages and distributes the valuables, and the fourth encompasses everyone else who consumes and fills in the blanks. Then Sieyes goes into explaining what the Third Estate is.…
Only one sixth of the population in 1789 qualified for active citizenship, or were able to hold political office; this translates to only 4.4 million out of the 26 million people of France. This leaves 21.6 million deprived of political rights in France. Here we have an agreement among the National Assembly "Men are born and remain free and equal in rights” , but you cannot have political freedom unless you are a white man of property. This shows the lack of intention to be all inclusive in The Declaration of the Rights of Man and…
In this paper I will compare, and contrast the Declaration Of Independence, and The Declaration of the rights of man and citizen. These two documents are mostly the same just different use of words. There are some differents like both of these documents leave out something that the other document does not have. In this paper I will show what they both talk about.…
The Declaration of independence contained the phrase “all men are created equal”, which was written by Thomas Jefferson. As a reader the phrase “all men are created equal” means that all men no matter of color, social position, wealthy, financials status, and culture are all created equal to one another. That all men abide and follow the same law and that all men have the same rights as citizen. It also means that humans are naturally free to make their own choices. On the other hand, the phrase to the founders of the republic meant that all men are created equal under the authority of God.…
