The United States Declaration of Independence is the statement adopted by the Second Continental Congress meeting at the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776. The Declaration of Independence declared independence between Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence was approved on July 4th 1776. The purpose of the document was to explain to other nations why colonies had chosen to separate themselves from Great Britain. Events that lead up to the document was the Stamp Act, Townsend Act, the Boston Massacre, the Tea Act, the Boston Tea Party, and the Intolerable Act. The Bill of Rights was approved in December 15, 1791. The Federalist felt as if the constitution was unnecessary because it only limited the government not the people. The Anti-Federalist claimed the Constitution gave the central government too much power. The Bill of Rights was added to protect the people from the national government from having too much power.
