Deciduous Teeth

The human body is constantly being explored by scientist to find new ways for treatment of diseases. Teeth are a very complex system within the human body requiring their own need for treatment of disease. Therefore, there is no lack of exploration of teeth when looking at replacement of a missing tooth or healing a tooth from carious bacteria. The average human body has 20 deciduous teeth and 32 permanent teeth. Deciduous teeth are fully formed at birth located within the maxilla and mandible and start to erupt at 4 months of age. The deciduous teeth are a guide for eruption of the permanent teeth. Permanent teeth erupt into the roots of the deciduous teeth causing root resorption to occur. There are different reasons for a person to lack teeth, the most common causes are congenitally missing, electively extracted, and extracted because of disease. Regardless of the reason a tooth is missing, the problems are the same, one major problem is teeth are constantly moving. This is seen throughout a time span of years when a tooth without an opposing tooth will continue to erupt until it is super erupted and requires extraction. Also teeth do not just move forward to fill a space, they fall forward causing periodontal pockets which in time lead to periodontal disease resulting in extraction.
