The intent of the Communications Decency Act of 1996 was an attempt by Congress to censor and regulate obscene material and pornographic on the Internet. This legislation addressed concerns Congress had was regarding juveniles’ being able to search pornography on the Internet. The Act’s focus was to protect children from viewing indecent or inappropriate sites from public areas on the Internet. Those for the legislation feared that young children would be in danger of child predators. Also, some believed children would be at risk from exposure and harm that pornography brings.
