One of the most vital Islamic achievements was geography and navigation. Document 2 states, “...Arab stations assure us the city boasted 37 libraries, numberless bookstores, 800 public schools...and a total population of 300,000.” This shows how privileged and how much of an advantage they had to this field of learning. There were so many opportunities for them to discover and learn new languages and such which influenced us today because it showed us how to read, write, and talk unknown foreign languages, for example the Muslims learned to do all of this to translate different languages for their needs (trading, translating, etc.) Another piece from document 3 states that, “In the 11th Century scholars traveled to libraries in places such as Toledo, Spain, where they began translating- but only after they learned to read Arabic.” This reveals that scholars were able to take journeys to collect more information from other places and sources and also to learn this skill (translating) to help them even more on their journey of discovering sources from other places written differently.
