Pearl Harbor is a harbour located on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Today It is a United States Navy deep-water naval base, and also the headquarters of the United States Pacific fleet. Pearl Harbor was attacked on 7 December 1941, by Japanese fighter planes. This was a huge surprise. Japan is 4,000 miles away from Hawaii , so the Americans thought that Japan were going to attack a European colonie. But instead, their goal was to take down the the Pacific Fleet so the Americans would not be able to counterattack. The Japanese plan had failed, Aircraft carries were the most important naval vessel and on December 7th, and all of the carriers were away from base. The Japanese also attacked Guam, Davao, and Camp John Hay.

Many big cities were always in fear of being bombed. All car manufacturers stopped producing cars, and instead started making vehicles and airplanes for the war.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the whole United States wanted redemption and wanted to go to war. This is when the United States came together as one to become a strong and powerful nation. The draft provided over 16 million troops between the ages eighteen to forty five. Women had to start working at factories, because all the men were going to war. Doctors came from all over the United States to help. Blood donors stood in line for hours so they could help the men that needed
