DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – An Ormond Beach pilot safely landed a small plane Sunday after discovering it had landing gear problems.
Local businessman Travis Garcon, 44, was flying home from Albany, Georgia in a Piper Aztec. He said as he tried to make an initial approach around 4.45 p.m., but the indicators showed the landing gear had not opened properly.
Garcon said he thought maybe his indicator was broken and asked airport officials to make a visual inspection to see if landing gear had lowered. The airport officials confirmed the landing gear was not down.
Air Traffic Controllers advised Garcon to burn fuel before landing on the plane’s belly, if necessary, to prevent fire upon landing. Therefore, he circled Daytona Beach International Airport
