David Zef's The Top Cats

My favorite part of the book is the final heist and how all of the pieces of the puzzle go together. It’s cool how everything that they planned turned out to happen. An important part is when March is explaining their plan, foreshadowing what might happen. He says, “‘Fact: Blue is scared of the Top Cats … I saw her face on that roof. Fact: Zef has been working on Dmitri not to trust her. Fact: We’ve got the sapphire. That gives us power. The Top Cats don’t like loose ends? We’re going to tie everything up in a nice neat bow for them” (Watson 238). It signifies how they are going to use what they know to double-cross the Top Cats. My least favorite part of this book is how some parts added way too much detail. It wasn’t good because

I like how at the beginning it starts out giving a little background of who the Grimke sisters are and a bit of history about them as well. I liked how it was wrote in a diary format, but everything was still explained through the book. I really loved and could tell that everything that was explained throughout the book was explained in order. Throughout the book, it talked about many things we have discussed and talked about in class such as the cotton gin. In the book, it mentions that during Sarah’s childhood, the cotton gin had effected a transformation in Southern Agriculture.…

“Don’t Blame the Eater,” writes David Zinczenko, president of a global health and wellness media company, who also asserts that obesity is becoming a genuine medical problem. Before 1994, he emphasizes, the rate of diabetes between children was so low that it could have been called a cultural stereotype, but, now, one out of three teenagers suffer by “obesity-related” problems. David Zinczenko claims that “the lack of information” about fast-foods and the deficit for the affordable supplementary for the fast-food restaurants are main reasons for the obesity issues; confusing explanations of calories perplex teenagers and lead them towards obesity while America possesses 13,000 McDonald’s restaurants, and it’s more complex to find a way to the…

The whole book floated smoothly even as he introduced new topics. The book’s structure of shifting back and forth from stories worked favorably for me because it kept me focused on the book. For example, Stevenson did not finish Walter’s story in just one or two chapters, but told it throughout the entire book. I like how he left the story of Walter’s story hanging with the mystery of what will happen next on his case.…

Reading the book, The New Jim Crow: Mass incarceration in the age of colorblindness brought attention to several different injustices that minorities face daily. It shuns light on how the African American community has been stereotyped and systematically program to dismantle the African American male figure within the family dynamics. According to Michelle Alexander Obama stated that too many fathers are AWOL, MIA and neglecting their responsibilities, which had cause the family to be weaker (Alexander, 2010,p ). However with the system continuously oppressing the African American male this is yet another way to belittle and emasculate this population.…

How did I feel about the book Unlikely Allies? I had lots of difficulty reading the book, from the sudden changes in scenes to the exhausting writing. It felt like a sloppy mess of sudden twists and turns that would, in most books, keep me intrigued, but this did not interest me at all. If the author added just a little bit of flair to the certain parts of the writing then I think I would really enjoy the book. The book had things I didn’t like, a few things I did like, and a couple things I would change.…

In today’s culture and society, many people will most likely value an expensive car over an ancient artifact. In other words, artistic objects with valuable meanings are less appealing than exotic goods or products to the average person. The short story The Safe, written by Tim Gautreaux demonstrates a situation in which a few workers in a junkyard discover a safe with a fancy sewing machine inside of it. With the exception of one character, Alva, the rest of them find objects with physical value more appealing than ones with artistic and sentimental value. After being exposed to the sewing machine, Alva, Snyder, and Little Dickie develop their own sense of imagination and recognize the importance of sentimental value, which is exemplified…
