David Bowen was born just in time for the Red Scare in the 1950s that blanketed all of America and pitted neighbors and family against each other. If I was born at the same time in his home town of Virginia, we would have had a similar taste for life and nearly a carbon-copy of career choices. We would have both enlisted in the U.S. Marines and have been shipped off to the jungles of Vietnam. This would have been an unusual and petrifying experience for the both of us. We would have trudged through the mud, run patrols out in the rainy jungles and waist high rice fields, been harassed by the local populace, and routinely prayed to the big guy upstairs that we’d get home in one piece.…

No matter what is happening, he is always smiling and joking around, but when he is smart he's never happy and always so serious.…

Many people in modern society disregard the importance of a relationship with nature in their lives. The siren call of technology distracts people, and keeps them from engaging with the world around them. Whether this is going out with friends or taking their dog for a walk, technology takes over. People go out together, but ignore each other, totally absorbed by their phones, rather than being involved in the experiences life has to offer. The poem “Falling Song” by Daniel David Moses explores the idea that living in an urban setting can cause an individual’s relationship with nature to be severed, which results in them feeling isolated and disconnected from the world around them.…

The art piece that I choose to do my critical intervention was on Daniel Arsham piece called “Hidden Figure”. I choose “Hidden Figure” (Arsham) because I loved the simplicity of the piece but as well of the strength that the piece holds. The reason on why I thought this art piece was simple was because the art piece its self was just a human body figure hidden behind a white cloth and the only thing visible was the boots the figure was wearing and the shape of the human figure. . As well as being simple, “Hidden Figure” (Arsham) also was obvious. The reason why I thought that “Hidden Figure” (Arsham) was obvious is because you can clearly see that there was something hidden behind the white cloth.…

Participating and observing the different interactions in Oliver Hall among the students and Sodexo workers I focused first on students I knew, because I did not want to assume their race/ethnicity based on looks. From observing this I noticed that students whose race/ethnicity fell under the category of a minority (Black/African American, Latino(a)/American) seem to have more meaningful conversations than other races/ethnicities. It was difficult to analyze each conversation because there was usually a long line waiting to get inside Oliver Hall, but the Sodexo workers either smiled or took extra time with students they knew/had a conversation before. Being Latina and actually knowing the Sodexo workers, I noticed that they did this for me…

Most car insurances determine the amount you pay based on your credit score. The logic behind this is that those who tend to have lower credit rates are also more likely to have a poor payment history through-out their life and make more claims. This is also used to view previous credit history; if you have a poor credit history due to frequent missed payments the insurance company can protect themselves by you paying a higher rate in case you repeat your poor payment history. This is the insurance company helping you out but also protecting themselves because you are a liability. The rate is based on several different factors of your credit score and history.…
