Dave Grohl's The Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways

Dave Grohl joined Nirvana as their drummer in the 90s, but after Kurt Cobain’s death in his Seattle home on April 5, 1994, Nirvana disbanded. Grohl was offered to work with a number of artists, and was almost accepted a permanent position as a drummer in Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Grohl declined and entered Robert Lang Studios in October 1994. For their first album (Foo Fighters), Dave Grohl wrote every song, played every instrument and sang every vocal with the exception of a guitar part played by Greg Dulli of the Afghan Wings. After the album created interest among record labels, Grohl formed a band to support it. The Foo Fighters made their live public debut on February 23rd, 1995 and then March 3rd. They released their first single, …show more content…
The Foo Fighters produced a documentary TV show on October 17, 2014 called “Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways”, in this series, they commemorate their 20th anniversary by documenting the eight city recording odyssey that produced their latest, and eighth studio album. The series taps into the musical heritage and cultural fabric of eight cities: Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington D.C and New York , with each city being the focal point for each episode. Live concerts are still performed worldwide with their most recent tour “The Broken Leg Tour” appropriately named after Dave Grohl’s leg injury during the tour. The tour was used to promote their latest album “Sonic Highways” and commemorating the bands 20th anniversary. Along with their rising popularity comes merchandising or ‘paraphernalia’ that is consumed by the fans. They sell regular things like tee-shirts and pullover hoodies but they are producing merchandise like Christmas ornaments and sweaters to appeal more to the consumers during the …show more content…
I have interviewed a small number of people, including people from my Generation Y and X and I researched multiple sites and overall I have found out that Foo Fighters have been viewed much more positively compared to that of other rock band and artists as they do not need to rely on being vulgar or doing explicit things to sell music. For instance, Italian man Fabio Zaffagnini, took a whole year to put together a huge one thousand person concert to play the song “Learn to Fly” so the Foo Fighters could play at their city, Cesena. Dave Grohl replied with a video, in Italian, “We’re coming, I swear. We’ll see each other soon” . This shows how much Foo Fighters contribute to social change and the amount of popularity they have built up over since the 90s. From the people I questioned none of them owned any paraphernalia of the Foo Fighters which was slightly surprising, but two of them have gone to a concert and one of them said it was one of their best experiences and both would definitely go again. From all the data I have collected, there has been practically no negative comments about the Foo Fighters or Dave Grohl, they have been described as “Rocks most well-loved rock

While Tomson Highway’s novel The Kiss of the Fur Queen undeniably highlights the differences and, at times, the direct opposition of two distinct cultures, the divide between them, be it moral or aesthetic, remains intentionally difficult to define. Indeed, while the struggle experienced by the Okimasis brothers in determining their own identities within a society where Cree traditions and white popular culture clash is still omnipresent within the text, the presence and particular usage of certain elements enables the narrator to connect, rather than bring judgment upon, the two sides of the brothers’ sense of self. More specifically, the theme of music is recurrent in the novel and, being present in both the familial setting of Eemanapiteepitat…

Until I met letlive. The way the singer connected with his music was beautiful. In his essay, “The Step Not Taken,” Paul D’Angelo fully follows “Csizzy’s Formula.” He hooks the reader in two ways, through the title, and the opening paragraph. The title, “The Step Not Taken” be an allusion to the widely known poem, “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frosty due to the similarity in title. This, if noticed from the start, could give the reader an expectation of what the essay could contain. Additionally, one might read the essay hoping for it to be a parody of Frost’s work or that there may be parallelisms between the two works that would provide further insight into the essay.…
