The Foo Fighters produced a documentary TV show on October 17, 2014 called “Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways”, in this series, they commemorate their 20th anniversary by documenting the eight city recording odyssey that produced their latest, and eighth studio album. The series taps into the musical heritage and cultural fabric of eight cities: Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington D.C and New York , with each city being the focal point for each episode. Live concerts are still performed worldwide with their most recent tour “The Broken Leg Tour” appropriately named after Dave Grohl’s leg injury during the tour. The tour was used to promote their latest album “Sonic Highways” and commemorating the bands 20th anniversary. Along with their rising popularity comes merchandising or ‘paraphernalia’ that is consumed by the fans. I have interviewed a small number of people, including people from my Generation Y and X and I researched multiple sites and overall I have found out that Foo Fighters have been viewed much more positively compared to that of other rock band and artists as they do not need to rely on being vulgar or doing explicit things to sell music. For instance, Italian man Fabio Zaffagnini, took a whole year to put together a huge one thousand person concert to play the song “Learn to Fly” so the Foo Fighters could play at their city, Cesena. Dave Grohl replied with a video, in Italian, “We’re coming, I swear. We’ll see each other soon” . This shows how much Foo Fighters contribute to social change and the amount of popularity they have built up over since the 90s. From the people I questioned none of them owned any paraphernalia of the Foo Fighters which was slightly surprising, but two of them have gone to a concert and one of them said it was one of their best experiences and both would definitely go again.
