The human race is blamed by itself for the destruction of our common home; and it is constantly to be seen and identified as nothing but something evil, useless, and powerless – or at least according to the Dark Mountain Project manifesto. The text encourages its readers to pick up their pens and paintbrushes to fight against the common world, where allegedly the greater proportion of humanity is in sheer denial of climate change. Longer working hours, reduced security, and other factors have led to their expectations of a utopian future being shattered. This factual piece of information is self-explanatory if left on its own, however the manifesto utilizes this to establish yet another point as support to their argument for the fragility of human civilization. The youth didn’t know what was coming – the authors fail to address that this is the spontaneous dynamic of human civilization – humans have learned to adapt over time than always succumb to the “crumble”. Is it using the vulnerability of the situation to create a movement and attain popularity? After thoroughly inspecting the elements in the manifesto, it is still unsure. It bashes humanity for its apocalyptic nature. However, in the attempt to emphasize the need for greater significance to be given to an artistic outlet, and to realize and accept what the text claims humanity has been in great denial of, the manifesto itself is ironically succumbing towards apocalyptic
