Danger Of Sexting

Decent Essays
I also believe education is the only way to prevent sexting no matter the age. People really don’t know the dangers of sending inappropriate texts or pictures. A persons’ sex messages can easily be expose from someone stealing their phone. A few months ago, I seen a teacher post a picture to show how fast one picture can travel around the internet. I thought that was a great learning tool for students to give them an idea of how fast their personal business can spread. I also think education wise people need to know the consequences from both sides of sexting. Like the charges that can be bought against them and having to register as a sex offender. Sexting in my opinion is very dangerous for all ages.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, sexting is defined as “the sending of sexually explicit messages or images by cell phone.” After reading about sexting and several cases in our textbook, in my opinion I think there are some flaws to this law. Although it is obvious that sexting can lead to consequence to those who become victims it seems like it should only be applied to certain things and not everything. For example, the female juveniles who took nude photos of themselves, and sent them to three boys should not face felony criminal charges. Based on the minimal facts given in the textbook, it does not make sense to charge someone who took nude photographs of themselves with child pornography because they are under 18 and in addition…

In the essay, “The Undercover Parent” by Harlen Coben disagrees and points out that kids will gamble online and chat to pedos. In his essay he writes, “But when it comes to chatting with pedophiles or watching beheadings or gambling away their entire life savings,” (Coben 1). While there is a minimum amount of truth to this argument I strongly disagree because kids aren’t going to be into gambling money they worked hard for they most likely will spend it on junk food, and with pedophile encounters, kids aren’t as naive as before and if a predator was on Snapchat it would be very hard due to the person needs to send live pictures instead of from a picture screenshotted from the internet then sent. Mostly all kids who use social media will know red flags when texting someone. Kids nowadays are very techie and most of the kids know how to turn off their location or falsify their location.…

In the article “Sexting Cyber children: Gender, Sexuality, and Childhood in Social Media and Law” Joe Rollins argues that the advancements in technology when used in harmful ways is drawing media attention and causing potential dangers to children and young adults. Rollins incorporates law, culture, and policy and how society needs to adapt in order to prevent the legal system of condemning young adults as criminals, in these cases he says “scholarly analysis of this new, technology mediated trend must take into account not only legal developments, but also the cultural changes in dominant conceptions of gender, sexuality, and childhood” (Rollins 58). This essay analyzes the sources Joe Rollins uses and the Page Real Estate of the court cases, how the cases relate to the audience of gender studies,…

The criminal penalties for teen sexting are too severe of an impact for adolescents who sext. Since sexting laws are derived from child porn laws, they have very similar penalties. Minors are being charged as adults such as the North Carolina teen sexting case with Cormega Copening and Brianna Denson. Where if Copening and Denson did not plead guilty to a lesser charge, they would have had to spend about ten years in jail and register as a sex offender for life (Matharu). As a result of these potential charges, it hinders the adolescent’s future by affecting common reputation and carries harsher consequences, such as exclusion from jobs or housing, harassment,…

The more open my students are on social media, the more they are open to predators and bullies. Even my generation doesn’t understand that risk, or they ignore that risk. As a future teacher, that is very worrisome. If even the parents don’t understand or express the risk to their children, then my job as a teacher gets harder. I think there should be classes or seminars in schools that shows the dangers of social media to students.…

A young girl sent her ex-boyfriend a “sexting photo” who he then forward it to several other juvenile friends. I think this is wrong because he and herself is violating her body, and not also that but both can get in trouble with the law. According to dosomething.org “70% of boys and girls who sent do so with their girlfriend, 61% of all sextets who sent nude images admit that they were pressured to do it at least once. This says a lot about how the social media can be a dangerous place…

Should a law be set in place enforcing pornography websites to install meaningful age verification systems to ensure that no one under the age of eighteen is able to access their content? Yes, a law probably should be set in place to enforce pornography websites to install meaningful age verification systems ensuring that no one under the age of eighteen is able to access their content. This law would likely prevent children and adolescents from being exposed to pornography therefore it will lessen the likelihood of someone becoming addicted to pornographic material. Sarah was thirteen years old, playing on the computer with her cousin. An ad came up on the side and they clicked it because they were curious as to what it was for, it took them to pornography website that exposed them to graphic images before they were able to exit out.…
