Every type of dance from salsa dancing to hula dancing has beautiful meanings. Dance is an amazing way of life because it can cheer someone up in a heartbeat and it can just be fun for yourself. Dance is a great way to celebrate as well, and along with these amazing worldwide types of dance comes differences such as clothes and shoes and beautiful costumes that at times can cost over $800.00, but this is usually for the professionals (Centralian Advocate). “There is a lot to ballet, not just ballet buns and fancy shoes.” (Tracing Ballet's Cultural History Over 400 Years). This applies to all types of dance, not just ballet and it is true. Dance is very complex and you have to have a good memory to remember the moves, what all the moves are called, and the dances you practice. Even though most people can dance or learn how to dance it is not just something most people can do right away,“ Some dances are simple and repetitive but others are quite complex with little or no repetition.” This basically means that even though everyone can dance, it is very complex and takes practice” (Greenspan, Karen). “There is so much to dance, it's not just dance it is music.” (Zabel, Liz) This was well said because it is true and most people think that they can’t do a certain dance type because they ‘aren't good enough’ or they aren't from that specific place so they can’t do that type of dance. Dance is something that the world shares and has been shared since the beginning. All types of dance can be shared, for example you don’t have to be from an English-speaking country of Irish ancestry to enjoy step dancing it is something that anyone can do no matter what you look like or where you are from. This is a great way for people to get to know other cultures too! There are thousands of celebrations that happen all around the world daily that revolve around dance because dance is something that you do not to punish yourself, but to do something that you love and

Although it is impossible to identify an exact time period that dance evolved, it is estimated that it was approximately 9000 years ago; at around 6000BC, as shown from the Bhimbetka rock shelters throughout India. The paintings depicted tribe members celebrating after a successful hunt. That was later followed with other cave drawings throughout the Western World such as in countries as Spain and France. Modern Indian dance was actually based on a very early manuscript, 'The Natya Shastra', which was written between 200BCE and 200BE.There is also evidence from Egyptian tomb paintings at about 3300 BC which evidently features dancing figures. This in time would heavily influence Greek dance.…

How did the African slaves sent to America maintain aspects of their culture? Throughout the years, Africans have undergone a dramatic change in terms of how they are viewed in society (this is a movement still ongoing today in America). During the 1800s, the slave trade brought many millions of Africans, primarily from West Africa, to North and South America, where they were owned by, and forced to work for the wealthy. Despite the tough conditions that the African slaves were forced to work under, they would always do their best to maintain the aspects of their culture, be it socially, religiously or politically, and this was most often through the means of dance.…

Lindy Hop and The Argentine Tango Dance and music play an important role in the cultural traditions of various societies. I chose to focus on two social dances from different cultures that are still celebrated today. For my familiar dance, I selected Lindy Hop which originated in the United States. This dance form is often shown in movies, and the free flowing movements caught my attention. Through my preliminary research, I discovered the Argentine Tango which interested me due to its improvisational nature and the ways music inspires movement.…

Hi Naiya, I have to agree with you with the idea that dance can be used to establish a national identity. Not only can it be used to establish a nation but it can also be a national symbol, something that everyone in a country can relate to. However, it is interesting how you stated that culture dances can symbolize a nation's freedom or independence, I didn't think about it from that perspective. Also, some nations use dance or even songs to symbolize a victory in a war or a succession from another country. The ability of dance forms to transform or evolve movements did during the Ottoman empire reminds me of dance forms such as hip hop that was used to transform a whole community's way of thinking and…
