Syria is famous for handicrafts and the most renowned of these industries is the Damascene brocade industry. Damascene brocade is one of the most well-known fabrics in the world. They use different kinds of threads such as Cashmere threads and Silk threads. So as to make the brocade more attractive they add several types of frills like roses, Omar Al-Khayam styles, Arabic designs, etc. Depending on the type of embossing on the cloth, it needs 7-10 hours to produce one meter of the Damascene brocade. Therefore, this handicraft is difficult and requires extremely longanimity. Historically they were using it for luxurious clothes; however, nowadays, it is used for furniture upholstery and other accessories.
