Daisy Is The Most Despicable In The Great Gatsby

Whether that be a significant other, who is always there supporting and loving unconditionally. Or the retired lady who is always cleaning up the neighborhood because she knows she has more time on her hands then any of her neighbors will ever have. Or even the stranger, who seems like a familiar face to all because they always make a point to better the days of those around them. Being asked to pick out who the most lovable, respectful, and kind person, is an easy task for most as they think of those around them. However, it becomes a great deal harder when the contradictory is asked; who is the most despicable person. Because more often than not, the most despicable can also be the most loving. Not only this but for so many the line between dislike and hatred is vague and ever changing. The word despicable falls right in the middle of this blur, because while many think so little of the word, it expresses such a deep sense of hatred. Those around her idolized her, Daisy is the “Golden Girl”(pg. 199). She is the one,where when asked people would say she is who the they find the most lovable, respectful and kind. But she is part of the set of rare cases when those same people are asked sit down and think of the person who they hold the most anger, jealousy and rage towards, would produce the same answer. Because how can you treat someone right who does not even have the decency to show up to the funeral of a man whose death they are responsible for. How can anything but moral indignation be expressed towards someone who will not come say their final goodbyes to the person who gave them the most loved and whom they loved the most.
