For the last 10 weeks we have learned what D.A.R.E. is. It is Drug Abuse, Resistance , Education. We have learned several things in D.A.R.E like resistance strategies, and the dare decision making model through presentations from Deputy Morris and a video by Retro Bill.
First, in D.A.R.E class we learned about resistance strategies, how to stay away from danger. The 5 strategies we learned are “Avoiding the situation”, that's when if you see something or know something is bad there (gangs, smoking, drugs, alcohol, etc.) stay away. “Strength in numbers”, if you have more than one person with you then if you're getting into something bad the they can talk you out of it or the gangs won't bother you because you’re with friends. The next is “Walking away” ,that's when someone ask you to do something you might not want to do, you say no and walk away and if they follow you start running (like an olympian ). My favorite is “Give an excuse” this is where you can tell someone an excuse to get out of taking drugs or alcohol, sometimes you can even blame your parents ( YAY ). The last is “Change the subject” you can ask the person you’re with to do something else instead of drugs and other bad things. …show more content…
He told us always to stay away from strangers because you don't know if they're bad people or not and you should always have a safe word like potatoes or butterfly or something like that. He also taught us that tobacco is bad for you and how it affects the body by putting it in a blender with good stuff and mixing it all up. Finally he told us to have a list of phone numbers incase of an emergence. Retro Bill was really fun and he taught us a lot more than that, but let’s move on to the D.A.R.E decision making
