An epic in its definition is : a long poem, typically one derived from ancient oral tradition, narrating the deeds and adventures of heroic or legendary figures or the history of a nation.
The story of Beowulf if a great definition to this he in his own being has many experiences wether he be real or fake, his experiences of extraordinarily defeat of monsters beyond human. Therefore leading him to be a figure those that shared his story grew to admire.
In an Anglo-Saxon society such as the danish from the beginning there was a pride in a higher power. There was a higher value for courage and bravery for the right thing, something many took pride in. Beowulf mirrors Anglo-Saxon traits when it came to poetry, Early English poetry is composed without rhyme or structure the purpose being they were typically accompanied by a hard or a form of music to add onto the more vivid and life like feeling of the oral sharing of poetry, that can be compared to the coffee houses of today, for example when people play drums to a free verse. …show more content…
What really targets the value of Christianity is the message of humility, devoting and the giving and sacrifice in effort to keep others safe. A hero is one that places his selfishness in the want to protect in serve, that's what Beowulf took pride in among humans that's what made him a true standard deserving of praise. The highlights of good and evil were woven into the characters of the dragon, Grendel and his mother. How deadly greed and selfishness rots a person's identity. The purpose of role of the dragon was to display the consequences of greed and the range of it's price from safety to a life lost, Grendel & his mother displayed by the author as a selfish duo, of coming right after the other as selfishness does, always asking for
