With my interest in genetics and DNA sequencing, I am considering pursuing a career in Bioinformatics as a research scientist. I am interested in becoming a research scientist because it fascinates me how humans share similar genetic material but only a small deviation in genetic material makes each human unique. In addition, I find it intriguing that the proteins found in humans are shared with other organisms. As a research scientist, I would be able to analyze and interpret mutations in genetic information and help pharmaceutical …show more content…
My main reason for wanting to join a research-intensive learning community, was the chance to collaborate with others on research projects. During my high school career, I had the chance to work with my peers in designing various experiments and using the results from the experiments to write research papers. When I had to conduct research with my peers, we had to collaborate on ideas that would best prove or disprove our hypothesis and apply scientific concepts to the experiment. By working on designed experiments, I was able to assess scientific data, apply concepts that I learned in my courses into the experiment, and effectively learn how to communicate my ideas to my peers. Moreover, by joining a research community, I am looking forward to performing hands-on research with professors and learning more about the research professors are involved in. With the ability to do research at Loyola, I will be able to further my understanding of bioinformatics because the research that I would perform would help me easily grasp the concepts being taught in my
