Changes in a culture happen over time because of many reasons. New generations and advances in society help to change the way a culture believes. Also, family values have changed and religions have become more tolerable of choices. For example, in the past American culture didn’t accept people having children out of wed-lock, the option of divorcee, or living together before being married. Over time this has changed and the churches views on this have also changed. Today, these situations have become not only accepted but also more common than the traditional way. People tend to live together before getting married to see how things will be. They want to get an idea of how married life will go before they make the commitment. By assessing causes and effects of a situation can lead to changes for the better. For example, in the American culture used to have much harsher discipline than today. Years ago, it was common to hit children when they misbehaved. As time has passes that way of discipline is not acceptable. I personally feel this is a positive change in our culture. I don’t agree with hitting or aggressive discipline towards children or anyone. We are coming up with better ways to get our messages across than to only instill fear in the children.
