Well, they’re wrong. How can it be the economy’s fault when there are a lot of folks who are not looking for employment so they can afford to not receive a government handout? How does this all hurt the culture of America? A lot of Americans have evolved to think that it is better to get just enough from Big Brother to get by rather than work hard towards making their own way towards success and prosperity. A lot of Americans are perfectly okay with being dependent on the government. (foxnews.com, 2016) That brings us to a second issue: Millennials, the generation that has handed everything to it but cannot seem to be productive as its predecessors. What exactly is wrong with Millennials? Speaking broadly from a Generation X perspective; they’re arrogant, take things for granted, think the rules don’t apply to them, don’t finish what they started, and don’t want to pay their dues before being successful. (inc.com, 2016) None of the Millennial qualities listed could be called redeeming. Millennials are also often afraid to do or say anything that could offend or upset someone else, even if they are in the right. They don’t understand that not everyone is going to get along. Speaking of people not getting along, a serious and troubling issue in America that is a big black eye on our culture is the vast racial divide that exists still today. This divide became painfully evident on 9 August 2014 when Officer Darren Wilson, a white Law Enforcement Officer, fatally shot Michael Brown, an 18 year old black male, who was assaulting him. (usatoday.com, 2016) The following day, protests would turn into riots, wanton looting of local business ensued, and the Black Lives Matter Movement was kick started into the national conversation… both in favor of and against the movement.
