This class seems to be very interesting. After reading over what this class is about it seems to go a little more in depth about cultural diversity in healthcare. As stated on Aspen’s website, This graduate-level course provides an in-depth study of cultural diversity, delineating ethnocultural congruent health-care practices in a pluralistic society. Assessment, planning, and interventions for health promotion and maintenance, illness and disease prevention, health restoration, and health policy are explored. It is not the fact that the patient has hypertension, but what in their culture contributes to this diagnosis? Learning and understanding one’s cultural differences can be very frustrating. There are things that Americans do that other cultures frown upon. Learning to understand and accept the differences in other people is where some individuals find to be difficult. When individuals reach out to their fellow co-workers and neighbors that are from other cultures, they find that they have several things in common that can start a friendship such as jobs, children, religion, etc. Neighbors and congregation at church are a natural way to meet and get to know people from other cultures. As the friendship deepens you can ask them to start to share their culture and values. People then learn the nature of the filter that creates their perceptions of the world. Not showing ethnocentrism and stepping out of the box will open one’s eyes and heart to accept individual with different cultural, ethnic and gender
