Rome and Greece were two fascinating ancient worlds that played a big roll in Western Civilization. They had very similar cultures. Similarities between these worlds included gods, architecture, and art. Despite their similar cultures geography was different. Differences in geography included location, water sources, and land.…
“We are at almost every point of our day, immersed in cultural diversity: faces, clothes, smells, attitudes, values, traditions, behaviors, beliefs, rituals”, Randa Abdel-Fattah. Have you ever sat down to think how many cultures are there in the world? In one community there might be more than one culture among the community. You would probably go crazy trying to count all the culture in the world. In today world, culture plays a major part of our lives.…
Does one’s culture inform the way one views others and the world? Yes it does. In many articles it showed how different one's culture could be to another person, and how it affects how they view the world. Some of those articles are Indian Father's Plea, My mothers pieced quilts, HAPA, Everyday use, and Where worlds collide. People's culture changes how they view the world outside of their own.…
The Hmong Culture Culture is unique form to describe someone and to learn things. It is also a form to understand the different points of view of a person. When I hear people talking about other people from all around the world the first thing that comes up to my mind is culture. I’ve always wanted to learn how people from other places have different cultures and how there cultures are the same or different from mine. For me it’s really interesting seeing how many similarities I share with other people who I thought were different from me.…
Culture is, “the entire way of life of a group of people” (Ferris, Stein, 2014: 77). A sociologist would see this as the large distinction between people and what makes them diverse. The custom’s that people celebrate, their holidays. If someone from the United States was to move to another country, it could shock them with how different some cultures do things compared to the United States. Having a large and vast diversity must include people who have a different culture than you.…
Cultural difference make America what it is today. The variety makes for new experiences daily that you wouldn’t see anywhere else in the world. We shouldn’t shut people out who are different. It might be hard at first to be open to new people, but it could change you forever. You could gain relationships that will last forever.…
Though each of these articles discuss different races, gender and classes one thing they all have in common is the fact they have all had their voice “silenced” besides Williams but she provides many examples of experiencing different racial groups that have. The most common factor is that all these authors are American by birth but since they look different than what people seem to think American’s look like they are treated differently. They’ve had to work hard to get their voices heard and even though each are highly regarded in their profession still have too. Takaki mentions that soon whites will be a minority, but even when that happens I don’t see the white population having as hard of a time being heard or seen as these other racial…
Haier is an international group, whose business comes from all over the world, so the business people should know about the difference between countries about values, culture, and ethical standards. We compare with China and America from six cultural dimensions to analyze those differences. For power distance, in high power distance culture, people's status have clear distinction, unequal distribution of power is regard as merited, people are used to accept the bosses’ opinions, demands, decision or command. In low power distance cultures, people think inequities within the groups and organizations should be minimized, between boss and subordinate should have equal rights. Confucianism is the core of Chinese traditional culture in China.…
What is diversity? The definition diversity is “showing a great deal of variety; very different.” To me, the American culture is made of diversity. “American” is not a culture of its own. “American” is a culture made up of a variety of other cultures.…
People dying in Syria and getting rejected when seeking help in European countries. Innocent black people being killed on the street by police in the US. Far-right political parties gaining popularity in the EU. The list goes on and on and writing it all out would take a long time. There is so much happening around the subject of racism and it’s hard to look past some of the obvious racial differences in todays society.…
Culture is in the mind of the beholder however culture is what gives individuals the ability to identify him or…
Gender in America are men can be women and women can be men, no boundaries and gay people are diversity. Women join the paid workforce, are the breadwinners or share it with their partners, also sharing of child care, household duties and food preparation, no depending on men. Understanding gender in other cultures makes me think of how different my culture really is compared to those four cultures because we don't take care of our men like these women of those four cultures do; they're pretty dedicated to their men. In my culture we're dedicated but we won't do everything like taking care of children, household duties and cooking, there's a line that we draw on when we've had enough of being taking advantage of. We will not take of things…
While the term “minority” is most commonly used to reference a socially subordinate ethnic group based on one’s culture, beliefs, nationality or language; multiple other types of minorities also exist. The term “age minorities” refers to members of the work force that are younger or older than the typical working age. Sexual minorities also exist in the general population as well as the workforce. The word “minority” also may be used to describe those who have minimal political and/or economic power.…
Furthermore, the premise of national cultures is also another mainstream driver of success in international businesses. Another conceptual framework for understanding the drivers behind foreign investment was proposed by Hofstede (1997), which focuses on national cultural differences in order to determine a suitable foreign market. This model differs from Dunning’s (1988) framework which lacks an emphasis of cultural dimensions. Hofstede’s (1997) Five Dimensions of National Culture Differences consist of five dimensions; Power Distance, Uncertainty Avoidance, Individualism/Collectivism, Masculinity/Femininity and Long-Term Orientation (Hofstede, 1997).…
