Cultural Aspects Of My Identity

From the time that I was three years of age to presently many things have affected my identity, such as failures, hardships, and my social interactions. However, the most outstanding of these obstacles would be my financial standpoint. For instance, my monetary issues have always dictated aspects of my identity, such as how people look at me, how I view myself and others, and the decisions I make when expressing myself.

In my past, I have always noticed that people commonly judge my personality upon how I dress or the fact that I do not have money. Due to these poor judgments I have become able to expand upon my identity through a valuable lesson; It is wrong to judge people based on their different walks of life. From lessons like this my knowledge of treatment and compassion changed how I view myself and treat other people.

For the majority of my youth, being poor provoked me to view myself as an insignificant person, for I believed that money defined importance. However, eventually I encouraged myself to look at myself more positively, and by doing so, I found my philosophy; One may only be defined by one’s self. My philosophy has changed the way I look at myself and others. For instance, while I was in elementary school, I learned that even though I have never had all of the privileges of other children, I am just as clever as anyone else. Therefore, only I can decide whether or not I prosper in my journey to find my place in society. From that point in my life until presently, I have stopped listening to other’s opinions of me, and now I focus on how I feel. By changing how I look at myself, I have been able to make better
