The director has also filmed at the school where Adi’s two children attend. A teacher gives a short lecture of the fabricated history to justify the genocide, and most of his students have no problem with accepting the falsehood of how vicious communists ruthlessly tortured some gallant, patriotic generals. The article states that, the attorney general's office banned textbooks that do not represent "historical truth", leading officials to burn thousands of textbooks that failed to mention PKI in 2007. One elder man even brags about his atrocious deed that he used to drink the blood of the communists just to keep his sanity intact. In the article, the survivor, Tumiso, tells the reporter that his toenails were ripped out and his mangled toes were jammed under a table leg. The perpetrators of the massacre hit his nose with an iron bar until it was deformed. Tumiso got abnormal vision because people hit him with whatever they found on the ground. Furthermore, the article reveals that children schooled during the Suharto regime were fed a diet of communism fear and loathing. The former Russian President Boris Yeltsin survived several impeachment hearings, terrorist attacks brought down the Twin Towers, the UN Atomic Energy Agency told Iran to stop enriching uranium, and Aung San Suu Kyi won a seat in Myanmar’s parliament after twenty years of house arrest. People tend to look at these events as little pieces that make up the great puzzle of history. How is it possible that either close to five hundred thousand to one million people in Indonesia that were murdered between the year 1965-1966 might be a forgotten history? The Indonesian mass killings took place at a time when Southeast Asia, still emerging from colonialisms, was energized by social ideology. At the time, the United States was already on ground in Vietnam. In Indonesia, it was led by President Sukarno and a home to one of the world’s largest Communist parties and was seen by Washington as the next domino that could fall. The United States saw communism as a threat.…
