Lewis discusses two views of our world, dualism and Christianity. Dualism believes there is a fight between good and evil with two distinct powers at battle. These two independent powers existed at the beginning of time and one is not above the other. However, to say one power is good and one power is bad, one would need a basis to identify these traits. Christianity views are different from dualism in relation to the belief of how evil came into play. Christian views show a world inherently created to be good, however, along the way goodness fell and became evil. C.S. Lewis (1952) stated “Goodness is, so to speak, itself: badness is only spoiled goodness. And there must be something good first before it can be spoiled” (p. 44). Jesus Christ came on the scene stating He was God, talking of his ability to forgive sins and his judging of the world. The fact that God is seen by Christians as above and outside of this world, it was shocking to have a man make these claims. An imperative aspect of Christianity is Jesus’ claims to forgive sins. This ability is not the ability that mankind has to forgive each other for the sins we commit against one another, instead Jesus has the ability to forgive all sins of all people as He is God. Jesus offers the only way for us to mend our relationship with God as sinners. The devil would like for us to believe that there is another way, although happiness and goodness cannot be achieved apart from God. The choice to follow Jesus is obvious as He is the ultimate alternative to mending a relationship with
