Introduction
Crystal Taylor is a 14-year-old teenager who is placed in foster care together with her newborn son because he mother Florence is a drug addict. Crystal, herself, is also an active abuser of drug and alcoholic drinks that she has been consuming from the grade school. By her young age, Crystal has already had a rich and varied life experience including being a witness of her father's overdose, being sexually abused by her uncle at an early age and by other people at the teenage, and being beaten by her mother Florence, to name but a few. First and foremost, it is necessary to point out that Crystal comes from a family of drug and alcohol abusers; therefore, she should have been genetically predisposed to these addictions from the very beginning. The addictions have a strong impact on Crystal’s personality undermining her psychological stability and resulting in continuous anxiety and nervousness that the young woman experiences. From the biological perspective, the drug abuse likewise leads to a continual degradation of the entire organism exhausting Crystal’s health resources. Moreover, the unfavorable environment to which Crystal was exposed from the early age brought significant changes to her psychology preventing it from healthy and stable development. Deprived of appropriate cognitive development, Crystal did not have a chance to develop her intelligence and critical thinking skills what likewise creates significant difficulties for her, particularly when it comes to decision making or problem-solving. Finally, another meaningful biological issue that needs to be discussed is the early age in which Crystal gives birth to her son. From the biological perspective, early child-bearing or, more specifically, the child-bearing that occurs at the early age implies numerous health risks including high blood pressure and hormone imbalance. Teen pregnancy also results in a postpartum depression in most cases. This condition involves a wide spectrum of unpleasant symptoms including sleeping disorder, loss of appetite, frustration, and general oppression. The postpartum depression might be one of the factors explaining Crystal’s seemingly easy-made decision to leave her newborn baby. On the whole, it can be concluded that Crystal is in the risk group from the standpoint of her biology and her health condition. In Crystal’s situation, the unfavorable health condition is
