I believe the Crusades were mainly the series of religious wars. Which was taken by the Latin Church between the 11th and 15th centuries. For example, the Christian knights had waged a war against the Muslims in Jerusalem in an attempt to reclaim the Holy Land. Also the reason why they waged a war was so they could gain more control.

The Pope Urban ll declared the First Crusade in 1095 AD by giving the most influential speech of the Middle Ages, which had made an huge impact. Due to the speech the Crusades had risen by calling all the Christians in Europe to war against all Muslims. Which was supposed to happen in order for them to regain the control they needed. Next time you see or think of Holy Crusades, think about what you just read and realize what is really going on. It is likely you under valued Holy Crusades before, but will now start to give the credited needed and deserved. I believe the Crusades were mainly the series of religious wars. The Urbans declaration was caused by religious reasons because the area now commonly referred to as the Middle East had become a point of conflict for European Christians because Christians frequently made pilgrimages to the birthplaces of their religion. The Crusades expanded the authority because the Crusades were a series of religiously sanctioned military campaigns which was called by the pope with the main goal of restoring Christian control of the Holy Land.
