The theme of The Crucible by Arthur Miller is that reputation is not important, and sometimes you have to sacrifice your reputation for what is right. One event that shows this theme is when Elizabeth Proctor stands before Danforth as he ask a series a questions about her husband being a lecher. She hesitantly answers him and says “No sir.” she lies she says “My husband is a righteous man.” not knowing that her husband has already confessed his sins. Proctor then yells out “She only thought to save my name.”. This shows the theme because, by Elizabeth sacrificing her life and telling misinformation to save her husband’s reputation.
