Cross contamination is when a potential hazard comes into contact with food that is than consumed by someone. These hazards include biological hazards (harmful micro-organisms), chemical hazards (harmful chemicals come into contact with food), food-borne infection (pathogens are ingested and multiply in the body), food-borne intoxication (toxins formed by micro-organisms that multiply in food are ingested), and physical hazards ( when foreign objects get into or come in contact with food.) Any food, even food that is not an unsafe food in itself are at risk for cross contamination. Anywhere that is responsible for food must follow a set of rules to help prevent cross contamination.
