Critical Thinking Steps

Critical thinking is a way to solve a problem, using creativity to find your solution. Some people say that using critical thinking is “stepping out of the box,” I think that when we use critical thinking we are looking at all different angles of a problem to get to a new solution. Critical thinking is a process. A process of key elements that will lead us to this new solution. The first key element to critical thinking is remembering, remembering terms, facts and dates. The next step is understanding. To understand we need to be able to put an idea into our own words. Applying is our next step. This step is used to put our knowledge to the test to create the result that we are trying to achieve. Next, we move onto analyzing. Now we are putting our ideas into sections and separate parts. Time to check our work, we are going to evaluate. We will check the truthfulness, usefulness and the state of work and find the information to back up our results. Finally we are going to create. One of these factors is our personal ethics. Personal ethics are what we find to be right or wrong. We develop our ethics over time, by how we grew up, personal experiences, and interesting enough, that decisions we have previously made. So, all of this being said, you could say that just because of who we are we may enter a dilemma and have our minds already made up on a solution because of personal ethics. For example: your family and community strongly supported the democratic votes in all elections. This is how you were brought up, your family stood with the democratic vote.
