Critical thinking in nursing is a critical element of professional responsibility and excellence nursing care; it is a self-focused, self-controlled, self-supervised, and self-educative thinking. The ability of a nurse to analyze and process arrays of information related to a critically ill patient requires critical thinking which comes with experience as a seasoned nurse. It is imperative for a nurse to understand a root cause and consequence of any action related to a patient care treatment.

Lack of fundamental clinical proficiency of nurses’ action can be detrimental, predicting the unforeseen and knowing cause of action is critical thinking. Indeed, a proficient nurse acquires his or her knack and intellect related to patient care gradually with learning and arrays of practice (Benner, 1984; Current Nursing, 2013). According to Marchigiano, Eduliee, & Harvey, (2011), the use of concept mapping (CM) metacognitive strategies that graphically epitomize students’ thinking extensively testified to stimulate critical thinking. The ideology that same treatment for patient create a problem because every patient is definitely not alike, patient centered care needs to be individualized because this is the thought of critical thinking. In many cases, the critical thinking seasoned nurse is actively involved in a lead position conducting charge and not spectator (Kaminski, 2010). I remember vividly my first preceptor, Janice Clark advice like it was yesterday; “Always know why before action” when in doubt ask because no question is stupid in nursing.
