I agree that if someone is down and feeling low, you would want to give them confidence booster, and make them feel better, lie or not. If someone says, ¨ Do I look ugly?” you wouldn't want to say, ¨ Yes you do.¨ You would say they wouldn't and give them the support and confidence they wanted. If someone lets you borrow something and you say thank you, that makes them feel good and happy about themselves.
I think society depends on people who care more about people than themselves. It helps a lot of people in certain circumstances. At a job you would have the common courtesy to treat your boss, coworkers and others like you would anyone else. Common and random acts of kindness could help anyone and everything. Charity organizations matter and depend on ¨good¨ gestures and most people feel good after learning they just helped one in need. It´s a good feeling that everyone should know how it feels. Even if it´s not in your personality trait or characteristic.
