During your normal daily life or even in the operating room, critical thinking can be very advantageous for you and the people around you. The ability to think critically can also diffuse many situations that may lead to pain and frustrations (Elder & Paul, n.d.). When you encounter a difficult situation, you should ask yourself questions to find out how to become more successful in the situation. In the operating room, there are many situations in which you have to evaluate whether or not you should speak up about a situation, and this is where critical thinking comes into play because you really need to know the whole situation and see where the other team members mindsets are. Many times people just jump into conclusion and this will cause conflict to occur, most people regret these situations and this is because they weren’t thinking clearly enough, since people don’t take time to think things through (Elder & Paul, n.d.). Make sure that what you’re thinking about is relevant to the topic, and always be mindful of what is being said so that you can filter out any unnecessary information. An example of this in the operating room would be when asking for any extra supplies, you should ask for what you need and not second-guess whether or not you need something else.
A great way to becoming a critical thinker is being able to question questions. When asking a question, you should look closely at what is being asked so you can better answer a question (Elder & Paul, n.d.). Many times people just accept things and not question whether something is being done correctly, and this is when many conflicts arise.
