There are a number of precipitating factors, signals or signs that help in predicting out behaviors, by identifying these signals or indicators the helper has time to prepare, intervene and prevent things from escalating out of control. First, the accurate identification is essential for visual and auditory signs that show that situation is rapidly getting out control. The failure to identify signals ensures failure to intervene. Secondly, the appropriate time is very important during the intervention. Also, a person should remain calm because overreacting just leads to further problems and can lead to an escalation of the situation. The other principles are to listen actively to an individual, to reduce the distractions, such as if radio or T.V. is on; turn it off. Be spontaneous because every crisis incident is unique and may require different approaches and strategies as the situation progresses. Moreover, a person should not try to become a hero because it increases the chances of someone getting hurt.
