A scenes of crime officer is someone who collects and records evidence from crime scenes this is in order to help solve crimes, this by finding evidence that could lead to a certain someone who may have committed the crime. A SOCO’s job would include working with the police during the investigation. A SOCO doesn’t necessarily work for the police only they can work for a security service company who works with the police. A SOCO’s job is to collect evidence from a crime scene from all types of crime, these could range from minor crimes to murder or even rape. An assistant SOCO or a volume crime scene investigator (VCSI), they would deal with more common crimes such as vehicle theft. The roles that a SOCO would have are;
