Crime And Punishment In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

Many people have said “If two people truly love each other, they will find a way to make it work.” This quote is a prime example of how Romeo and Juliet would do anything to make it work between them. The story “Romeo and Juliet”, authored by Shakespeare, shows how two people loved each other so much that they would rather take their own lives before living without each other because Juliet’s dad was too strict, forced her to marry a man she didn’t love, and drove her to fake her death. Because Romeo and Juliet both died, Lord Capulet should be blamed and punished.

One of the reasons Lord Capulet should be punished is because he was way too hard and strict on Juliet, which made her confused. In act 3 scene 5, Lord Capulet claims that Juliet

Juliet decided to fake her death and run away with Romeo since her father was being so cruel to her. In act 4 scene 1, she went to Friar Lawrence who told her to “take this vial… you’ll seem dead… you’ll be put in a tomb… Romeo will take you away to Mantua.” Because Juliet thought this was her only option, considering the other ones, she took the vial so that she wouldn’t have to marry someone that she didn’t love or be kicked out of her own house. The plan backfired because Romeo didn’t receive the news in time, and ended up killing himself because he couldn’t imagine life without Juliet. In act 5 scene 3, when Romeo is looking at Juliet’s dead body, he exclaims “come, bitter poison, come unsavory guide! You desperate pilot, let’s crash this sea-weary ship into the rocks! Here’s to my love.” This shows that Romeo killed himself because he couldn’t bear the thought of being alive without Juliet with him. Once Juliet wakes up and finds Romeo’s body, she is very unhappy because the person she loves is dead. She says “I will kiss your lips. Perhaps there’s still some poison on them, to make me die with a kiss” (Act 5 Scene 3.) Because Lord Capulet was going to force her to marry a man she didn’t love, she thought running away with Romeo was the only way out, but they both ended up dead because of a miscommunication.

In conclusion, Lord Capulet was the cause of Romeo and Juliet’s death because he was too hard on Juliet, he was going to force her to marry Paris, and because of that she saw no other choice but to fake her own death. Lord Capulet caused Juliet to feel unwanted so she was going to run away with Romeo. Because things didn’t work out, and the plan didn’t follow through, Romeo and Juliet both ended up dead. Lord Capulet is found responsible and should be the one to be

If Lord Capulet did not place this momentous burden on Juliet, then she may have not tried to fake her death that ultimately ended in her as well as Romeo’s demise. Even though Lord Capulet could be responsible for the death of the lovers, Friar Laurence is predominantly the one to blame due to his lack of judgment throughout the play. Despite Friar Laurence’s good intentions when agreeing to marry Romeo and Juliet, thinking that it would end the feud, he neglected to foresee the potential negative outcomes. Upon his agreement to marry Romeo and Juliet, he hastily advises, “Come, come with me, and we will make short work; For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone Till holy church incorporate two in one”(II.vi.35-37). Friar Laurence already knew that tensions were high between the Montagues and Capulets, and by doing this he endangered the well-being of both Romeo and Juliet if anyone ever found out.…

In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, an obvious confusion dealing with the main characters’ death is present. As Joseph Pearce adequately stated, three separate motives for Romeo and Juliet’s death are possible. The first is the fighting between the Montagues and Capulets. Even the prologue says “…the continuance of their parents’ rage” (Prologue, line 10) did not help their children’s struggle. The parents were oblivious to their children’s problems.…
