In the article “Brainology” written by Carol Dweck, she explains that our brains are changing constantly and how intelligence isn't a fixed value if we have the right mindset. We can all change the way we view the world and it's challenges if we believe we can with hard work. Dweck mentions that “many students believe intelligence is fixed, that each person has a certain amount and that's that”(Brainology). This mindset will limit us in any aspect of life whether it is trying something new or pursuing a new career only to be discouraged because you believe it isn't the right thing for you because you aren't good enough at it. The protein that was concluded was dystrophin. The disease that is associated with this protein is Duchenne. Duchenne is referred to as DMD and is associated with muscular dystrophy. DMD is one of the most common gene malfunctions and is causes by having a problem with a gene which makes up the dystrophin protein. They claim that pharmaceutical companies partake in “disease mongering”: that is, they fabricate new diseases by “widening the boundaries of treatable illness”. Critics such as Healy and Dossey agree with this claim. However, I will argue that, although not unfounded, the claim that pharmaceutical companies are guilty of disease mongering is not justified. Alzheimer’s disease (AD), was discovered as senile form of dementia in early 1907 by Alois Alzheimer in 1907. Since then the disease has been researched and studied to generate a knowledge base of symptoms, etiology, pathogenesis, treatment and management of the disease.
