There is a close relationship between awareness levels of credit card usage and the benefits of credit cards. The purpose of this empirical study is to investigate the awareness levels of credit cards and its benefits among different types of individuals across different demographics. In particular, knowledge structures, beliefs, likes and dislikes as well as attitudes of credit card owners in the possession and use of credit cards are investigated. A primary survey was undertaken to ascertain the relationship and interdependency, if any, between these variables. The survey was opened to both the employed and the unemployed section of individuals. The reason behind surveying both the employed and unemployed section of individuals is to learn and understand the awareness level of credit cards amongst the unemployed and their usage patterns and also the employed section of individuals so as to understand their level of awareness of credit cards and their usage pattern and their preference for a certain bank credit card.
The sample comprised of 121 respondents both employed and unemployed individuals of which 74 were male and 47 were females. The technique used for sample selection was non-probabilistic Judgment type so that a fair representation of each category could be obtained. The security levels and the benefits provided by the banks are different from each other. Also the ratings provided by the respondents regarding the security levels of the credit cards are different which states that the individuals are aware of the benefits of the credit cards.
