Stain glass has been used to narrate stories about ways of life, beliefs, rituals, philosophies and play in various ways. Ancient Egyptians discovered and innovated it through heating sand, seaweed and brushwood heated at extreme temperatures; the stain-glass main significance to Egyptian culture was that it was a symbol of Aristocracy and only the monarchs and the wealthy could afford it. Colored gems were classy and for nearly every gemstone, there was a glass formulation to mimic it. Stained glass in early Egypt was considered more of a domestic luxury than and artistic medium.
Early Arabic stain glass showed Islamic beliefs and mainly consisted of precise geometrical shapes to show the perfection of Allah. The Islam religion opposed to idol worship hence their stained glass was deep and precise and strictly portrayed Allah’s greatness and truth.
Christian used stained glass to show biblical beliefs; some artworks showed whole parts or verses of the bible in a series of stained glass. Most of the Christian stain glass depicted Virgin Mary, Jesus, The Apostles and these helped convey messages of spiritual …show more content…

ELEMENTS OF ART IN STAIN GLASS
1. Line- Line is used to divide the colors of the glass and bring out the shape. Line can be thick or thin depending on artistic intentions. In early stain glass, iron and silver soldering was used to bring out the line and the shape but today, this can easily be done using glass outliner.
2. Shape- 2D and 3D, shapes can be used to bring out the colors and lines of the artwork. Some to line, shape is brought out in today’s stain glass using outlining. The shapes can even be used to bring out a certain pattern in abstract stain glass.
3. Pattern- This also depends on artistic intention as well as choice of mixing colors. Abstract stain glass normally consists of particular patterns whilst normal contemporary stain glass us the patterns to bring out the color hue.
4. Color – Helps to bring out the reality of the work and make it catchy and attractive, enhances message and understanding of a particular art-piece as well as pull a certain audience to exhibit the
