The Adventurous Foods of Target
The lights dimmed, causing the moon’s light to break through the foggy windows of Target. The tall white shelves were now hidden from the dark. The bright red sign of Target lit up the dark aisles with a bright red glow. “Are they gone yet?” the strawberry whispered nervously. “Yeah, let’s get moving.” said the proud leader of all foods, the cucumber. The strawberry dropped down to the cold floor, then came the cucumber. They gathered all the foods, including the sushi twins, marshmallow, peppers, cabbage, french fries, eggplant, potato, and bok choy and they brought them to the register. “My fellow foods, we are sick and tired of living in fear everyday due to being bought and eaten.” The cucumber said sternly.

The manager closed up Target, and exited the store. “ALL FOODS REPORT TO THE REGISTER NOW!” screamed the enraged cucumber. The foods followed one by one and ran to the register quickly. “I can’t believe the sushi twins are gone for good!” cried the marshmallow. “I know, it’s so sad.” the strawberry added. “It is now time to put our plan in action!” the cucumber yelled. “I agree.” “So do I.” The strawberry and marshmallow both said. “Ok, let’s go.” Each food followed one by one in a straight line to exit the store for good. They tiptoed quietly, in case any humans were still in the store. They creeped through the store and finally made it to the door. They stood still, looking out in the open. “We made it,” the marshmallow said. “Not quite yet.” the cucumber added. They took one step, and the ground shook behind them, they turned around slowly and saw a big, scary, security guard. They all had let out a gasp of disbelief. They were then picked up by the hairy guard and brought to the back of the store were the “bad” food went. “What the heck, how did the food get all the way over here?!” the guard asked himself. Then they were dropped off in the back and left there to rot. “What are we going to do now?” asked the scared strawberry. “Well there is an exit door across the room. If we can get to it without being caught we can surely be free forever.” states the brave cucumber. “Then it’s settled, let’s start moving.” the marshmallow responds with them.

COMS 100B – Examination One Lianne Woo Question One: Goals, Themes, and Requested Actions: Although salad may be seen as a healthy alternative, Tamar Haspel’s aim in “Why salad is overrated” is to report that lettuce is more harmful than beneficial, in ways that are unhealthy and wasteful. Haspel informs the audience that the resources needed to process the vegetables cost more than the vegetables itself; she also explains why lettuce is overvalued, giving details to the nutrition density, calorie count, and shipment of the vegetable. She wants the audience to agree that lettuce causes more problems than benefits, and implies that she wants the audience to notify others to change their diet from iceberg lettuce, and similar vegetables, to something…

Publix: Where Shopping Should Be, But is Not, a Pleasure I think, in the Fall of 1930, George W. Jenkins endeavored to emulate lionized, yet-to-be-born-television-icon-Oprah-Winfrey. A furtive and sinisterly burly man, I believe, he traipsed into burgeoning Southeastern neighborhoods and bellowed, “You get a Publix! You get a Publix! YOU GET A PUBLIX!” Frightening (and expensive… so, so expensive).…

In the article, “The Pleasure of Eating” Wendell Berry, Berry explains how consumers are passive which means they are blind to what they purchase and simply do not care. Berry urges that we need to change the way we eat food and find out where our food comes from. The main argument to this article is the food industries are changing to make food cheaper and unhealthy and us consumers are unaware of this. Berry wants consumers to be more informed about the food they eat and to try to eat freshly grown food from home farms or organic markets.…

A quick stop to the Five Guys, in Winter Garden Village, during rush hour is interesting but rewarding. The smell of the peanuts and beef hits my nose as soon as I had entered and I crave their food even more. As I enter the restaurant, I am first met with a stack of white bags filled with Idaho potatoes right in front of the door. To get to the cash register I turn to the right to go around the potato sacks to the bright red counter. As I pass the potatoes I see news clippings on the wall of food critics praising their burgers.…

The Dark Side of Wal-Mart Get in and get out with as little money spent as possible. This statement is what most people say to their selves when going shopping. Wal-Mart is a popular store known for giving its consumers low prices on groceries and goods, compared to other stores. Thus, it’s no wonder why Wal-Mart is the first place people go. Although, something most consumers never really think about is whether or not these low prices are just a façade for Wal-Mart’s participation in the American economy and what these low prices are doing to the suppliers of Wal-Mart.…

As I drove through Belden Village on what was a very pleasant February night, there was a different atmosphere than that of the previous months. Excitement filled the air as it was the beginning of a new era. As I passed the Chick-fil-a parking lot, I noticed that it was not filled to its usual capacity. I had finally arrived at my destination that I had longed for many months. Cars were filed around the building twice and occupied the entire parking lot down to Value City Furniture, as police were needed to help regulate traffic.…

A desolate, endless wasteland of flat grassy plains, the monotony of which was only interrupted by the occasional road sign, was all to be seen as I drearily stared out our black station wagon’s dirty window. The huge expanse of sky above was completely free of clouds and the sun beat down on our car mercilessly. The heat was almost unbearable and to make things worse, at this point in our long drive, the car’s AC was going in and out. My mom, Michaela, my sister, and I were currently traveling across the hellscape that was Montana. We were on our way home from visiting my mother’s side of the family, in her home state, Michigan.…

Hiking Boots: DEATH OF A HOEGAARDEN February 16th, 2012 | Author: AdminIf you read my earlier post about my initial experience with the grocery store, than you know it was no walk in the park. An experience I look forward to back in the US, my trip here was more like a walk through a dark alley in east LA and I left wanting to cry. However, I was fortunate enough to make the next trip with a local who helped me navigate my way through the isles and identify things like sour cream, called casin creme, or cream cheese, called finlandia.…
