Creative Writing: Melissa Huber's Relationship With My Father

Improved Essays
In 1990 my father, Robert Stiens, only 22 years old, was in a relationship with a woman named Melissa Huber. He had been in this relationship for some time and had already had two children with Melissa. His relationship with her parents was one that was very strained to say the least. The father of Melissa hated my dad so much that by this point in time he had already threatened to call the police several times just for being on the property. They could never seem to agree on anything, and a tension had been brewing for quite some time. Some would even say you could cut it with a knife. This day in history was the day that blows would ensue, my father would be charged with 3 separate charges, my dad would get a probation sentence with jail …show more content…
(Which is quite nice of them considering a gun was pulled.) They’d make my dad leave and they’d call it a day. The two officers left to go do something in their car real quick and Mr. Huber came over and poked my dad in the chest. Now this is the point where my dad should have said alright we’re done here this fighting will solve nothing and the police will take both of us to jail should it continue. However my father decided it would be a good idea to punch Mr. Huber for showing him disrespect and they began fighting once again. At this point the police could no longer let them off easy and had to arrest both …show more content…
He then left his girlfriend and their kids to go start a new life. He decided that moving to California would be the best decision, he went there and lived with his aunt until being able to buy his own place. After having a gun put up to your head, who could blame him? Missy refused to allow my father to have any sort of contact with his kids, Christopher and Cassandra, and even refused to accept child support. (Stiens) She spent their entire childhood turning my father into the bad guy for these children. Robert should have taken her to court and fought for possession of the children. However, being young he was probably too scared to actually try and take care of them by himself or even may have been fearful for his life to try and do a dual-custody. My father would spend the next 20+ years wondering how those kids were doing while spending the time in between starting a new

Monday, August 22nd, 2016, approximately 10 o’clock PM. I arrived home after a typical summer night out with my friends at the local Applebee’s, however I was greeted at the door by my already enraged father. Before I had time to take my shoes off of my feet, my father was already ridiculing me, spouting phrases such as “you’re so irresponsible” and “you cannot be trusted with anything.” Now of course there was some foul language included sporadically in those remarks, but overall I was shocked at why I was being attacked seemingly unprovoked. My father then decided to inform me that tomorrow at 8 AM I had to report to the soccer fields at Holy Ghost Preparatory School for soccer tryouts.…

Both stories, The Struggle to be an All-American Girl by Elizabeth Wong and My Father Writes to my Mother by Assia Djebar, explore the ramifications of foreign languages. Elizabeth Wong’s essay The Struggle to be an All-American Girl details her experiences learning Chinese at an alternate school to where she receives her general education. Wong talks about her brother’s habit to be “especially hard on [her] mother, criticizing her, often cruelly, for her pidgin speech-smatterings” (Wong 1) because English is not her natural language. The brother’s degradation of the mother allows him a certain power over her. She is forced to feel inadequate because of her poor English communication skills.…

was sitting in the corner of the court room as the Child Protective Service (CPS) caseworker read back a recent interview she had with a young teenage girl. In excruciating detail, they read aloud the intimate confessions of how this girl had been sexual abused by her father. I cringed, as the case worker quoted the girl's description of her abuse to the court; explaining when and how everything had happened to her. My whole body tightened as knots formed in my throat and my hands tightly gripped the bottom of my chair. The caseworker then explained how their investigation had found physical evidence to support the testimony they had received and with the help of the judge they would be able to keep her out of contact with her father.…
