Creative Writing: Locker Room-Personal Narrative

Decent Essays
Through the decrepit, middle school, locker room mirrors, I could see her brawny figure standing behind me, her face replete with exasperation. The smell of her musk camouflaged by cheap perfume became more distinct as she walked towards me. As I turned away from the mirror to avoid sharing the narrow area with my antagonizer, I bumped into her. I apologized quickly, trepidation present in my voice. Evidently, that was not enough. When she she began to extend her arms to grab hold of my body, I felt a rush of adrenaline but I could not escape before she grabbed hold of my shoulders and threw me onto the stone walls. My body collapsed and my head hit the floor. The discomfort my head endured was unbearable and tears of pain and weakness slowly rolled down my cheeks as she made her way towards me. …show more content…
Her body towered over mine and she looked at me as if she was a lion, gazing over its prey, before she devoured it. She held rage and power in her first and plunged it into my chest; the pain was torturous. Another relentless blow landed on my face causing me to bleed. Crimson red blood splattered on my white shirt created an unorthodox mural. I laid there defenseless as the pitiless artist painted blue and purple paintings all over my body and thought about the principles my parents had put before me. Anything that could help me in a time like

There were scars too. Lines across her body, like someone or something had dug his nails into her, tearing her flesh. As if someone had clawed away at her. The gashes told the whole story. It came to the point that one could hardly bear to even look at her.…

She sees the look of realization on the faces of the ones who have caused her so much pain as the questions are “like a blow on the face.” Her anger is brief but powerful as she drowns in the weight of her grief once more when she sees the “dying” and “neglect” of her children. Given our knowledge of generic conventions such as personification, symbolism, and historical context, the reader is given an even better understanding of the underlying theme and message of the…

Her watery eyes stared at mine and the monster’s being. Petrified, I quitted the room with zest, my heart beating as I hear the thundering footsteps pursuing behind. Attempting to outrun the beast I locked myself within a chamber, hearing the howling of the giant and charging against the door. I had prepared to succumb to my fate, perhaps this was my consequence for acting out what my nature allowed. Yet, familiar voices echoed through the hallways and the frenzy subsided, the male creature was killed.…

Cadence was ill. An immense pressure bore on her head as she slowly awoke from her midday slumber, her daydreams gradually fading away from her mind. Reality sunk in, and she found herself awake. Dim candle light shone all around her, and it pierced her eyes, worse than a thousand needles ever could.…

Like most people who share the state of conciousness, I am prone to day dream. I often float away on the soft clouds of my fantasies, drifting high above reality in the vast blue sky. As a writer, these fanciful mental journeys sometimes lead me to imagine what my perfect writing environment would look like. I am not alone in this wistful contemplation; many other authors, painters, and musicians join me in exploring this mental path, each envisioning their own versions of the ideal creative escape. Some yearn for extravagant spaces, like a sprawling historical library, or a high tech office.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

The Boys and Girls Club, has brought so many opportunities into my life that have shaped me into the strong, hard working, role model I am today. At my club, I enjoy the luxury of the teen side with my friends, and participate in many leadership programs, such as Torch Club and now Keystone. I set an example for those looking up to me, and have even gotten the chance to mentor younger kids/help out my community by donating to numerous homeless shelters, and going to the accompany the seniors at senior homes. My actions haven’t always seemed to be one of a leader's, and my life at the club hasn’t always been so wonderful either.…

My writing process usually involves me prewriting, planning, drafting and then editing. I often try to revise the paper while I’m writing it, which often seems to create more problems as I stop my thought process on what I was writing and focus on something else. While this has slowed me down, it has never stopped me from finishing something. I have always had an easy time writing in an environment where I don’t have any tight restrictions and can write freely about ideas for characters, stories, and worlds. I usually have trouble coming up with the right words when I’m required to write about very specific topics or ideas.…

I didn’t know what I was in for after that day. A writer’s key experiences is what makes them different from other writers and is crucial to their growth as a writer. The writing I composed in Mrs. Heningburg’s class was central to my development as a writer because it made me more confident in my writing and made me more aware of others reading my work as a writer. After hearing my last writing assignment's result in the class, I started expecting a high scoring on my writing works. The compliment about my essay from my sixth-grade teacher changed me, so let's start from the beginning.…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

Over the first semester I feel I have been appropriately challenged in the area of writing we have done this year. I learned many new skills, but the most important one involves English and how to write properly. As for the first writing, I really did not understand what was right and what was wrong. Because I never paid close attention to specific rules in how to write. I truly believe it has been hard for me.…

    Locker Room Talk Summary

Stephen Dunn’s “Locker Room Talk” takes the reader through Dunn’s personal experiences as he listened to other guys’ stories about girls throughout his life. His memories start from when he was young, at around twelve or thirteen, when an older boy named Frankie talked about having sex with a girl and introduced him to pornography in the school yard where he felt “Wonderment. Not wonderful.” Later on, when he got more experience under his belt, the wonderment that he felt was substituted by embarrassment although he did not know if he was embarrassed for the girl being spoken about, the guy telling the story or himself as the listener. During college while at the locker room he heard a guy explain, purposely loud enough so the whole room…

With this metaphor, Glasgow’s audience can understand how Charlie is so betrayed and angry at herself that her skin is alive, alive and working against her, making her want to hurt herself again. For both authors, their choice to use or not use metaphor contributed to their success in extracting the desired…
