Going Back
Have you ever really wanted to go back in time? It was one of those miserable no good days. Andrew had just failed his final chemistry test he knew what this meant when he got home. The ride home was terrible, but he was home soon enough. He opened the door a... No! It was locked. In his haste his eyes scrolled over the note on the door, and although he read it, 5 seconds until he understood it. The note read, “I’ll be back at 5:00.” Wow, 2 whole hours of freedom he thought. To ease the guilt he decided to walk over to his neighbor’s house. He was best friends with Jared.
Jared’s dad answered the door. “Oh, Hello Andrew,” he rattled off “I’m sorry, but Jared isn’t here today, but I do need some help.” Oh well, I don’t have anything

He realized that he was just standing there holding up that module. No, he wasn’t. The module was attached, and he just had his hands on it. Feeling foolish, he quickly put his hands down and asked Jared’s dad what needed to be done next. He was answered, “You don’t seem to be yourself today. He then proceeded to explain what was in the corner, after he was asked. Being as ambiguous as possible, he said it was one of his failures that he moved down to the basement to start working on it again. Andrew quit his questioning there, because he knew Jared’s dad was trying to hide it. He felt he was being deceived, because there was no sign of wear, and all the parts looked new. The more he looked at it, the more it stood in stark contrast. Everything else in the room was covered in a small film of dust, yet not a speck of dust on the mystery machine. Jared’s dad was one of those people who just couldn’t spit out a story, yet usually he would explain things in depth. Jared then realized that he just felt rejected and uncomfortable, and he figured he was making Jared’s dad feel the same way. Jared went home, and his mother was there. But for some reason, he was not yelled at. He had wondered if his mom knew, or if she just didn’t care. Either way, he still had a weird sense of guilt. The rest of the day was fairly normal, yet he was still wondering what the mystery machine did, and why Jared’s dad was trying to hide the …show more content…
Huh? He thought today was Sunday. It was at this point that he realized that today was actually Friday, and he realized what he agreed to and knew he really didn’t have to go to school but he did any way. And yes, he did retake and re-fail his chemistry test. He didn’t care though, but he was able to avoid being bullied at all because he had planned comebacks. For this one day of his life, he felt like the coolest kid. And knowing it could be twice as good the next day, he was very hedonistic and prepared at the same time. He went to bed, and he noticed it got darker out a lot earlier. Today it was dark at 7:00 already, and he knew that it was getting closer towards winter, and that meant the days were getting longer, but the change was very rapid. Either way, he didn’t care, but then he did, because he remembered jared saying something about time changing and some sort of consequences, so the very next day, he went to Jared's house, like he did the day he failed the test. Andrew knew what was coming, so he asked about the invention, but Jared’s dad was silent, until he decided that it didn’t matter. He told Andrew, and he said it all in such an ambivalent tone, that it made Andrew very

“Professor Robbin?” The class had not yet started, there was a few minutes before the official start of Mr. Robbin’s English 112: Argument-Based Research class. The newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Doctor Strange, finally released its trailer, with a prevalent emphasis on time, its manipulation, and the implications of said manipulation (along with magic!). Naturally upon its release, the “nerd hype” flowed through my veins, and almost immediately I scoured the internet for beginners’ level mystical spells that I could perform on my own. In the middle of my research on the “Sorcerer Supreme”, I began to reflect about time and how it was more important to me now than ever. In the second grade, time was of very little significance.…

Throughout the film, characters constantly mention other artists that have achieved greatness but then fall down a path of loneliness and depression. At the dinner table scene Andrew says, “I’d rather die broke and drunk at 34 and have people at a dinner table somewhere talk about it than die rich and sober at 90 and have no one remember me” showing the true ending to Andrew’s self-destructive path. Chazelle offers a moment that allows the audience to reflect on Andrew’s character arc and journey through the harrowing silence of his success at the climax of his self-destructive…
