I saw a man who could undoubtedly be labeled a boy cry for his momma while his split open body slowly bled out. My most frequent observation, however; were those combatants who would run blindly up the beach to encounter a detonating mine that would send their body through the French air in a dozen

In the early overcast morning, American troops gather in formation as they are riding to shore in the “Higgins Boats”. The camera pans backwards presenting a small platoon of soldiers: two of them are vomiting while the others are stuck with fear and nerves, which are glued to their faces. In the background, several of these boats are shown advancing to shore. As they encroach the shoreline, the boats ramp begins to open up immediately exposing American forces to German gunfire. German MG’s (machine guns) instantaneously shoot one of the boats while they were opening, annihilating nearly everyone on the boat.…

Allied planes tore through the open sky with kamikazes right on their tails. Gaping holes left in the ground by heavy artillery were full with stagnant water and the rotting corpses of dead soldiers, their weapons bent and rusted displaying a haunting past that time wouldn't forget.…

When I was ten years old, I moved to West Texas. I loved swimming in the lakes and ponds around my home before, so I was disappointed when I found out that there was only one body of water near my new home. This “lake” (about the size of a football field) was called Clearwater Lake. It took about an hour’s time to drive there. The first time my family drove over there, I was amazed by how many people there were, all the cars packed liked sardines, the people moving so slowly it was like molasses.…

I went on a road trip to Lake Tahoe with my friends the week after graduation in June. We rented a cabin near the lake and spent four nights kayaking, hiking, and exploring different scenic spots throughout the area. My favorite (and scariest!) part of the trip was working up the courage to jump off a 20 foot cliff into the lake. The trip was a great way to wrap up our time at UCLA, and it gave us a chance to hang out together one last time before we went our separate ways.…
