I. Diamonds are crystals made of a chemical called carbon. They are the hardest known natural material in the world, and one of the most valuable. In the Greek language, the word diamond means indestructible. It is possible to create diamonds with carbon and by applying extreme heat and pressure. Diamonds are measured in carats; one carat is two-hundred milligrams. Diamonds are better conductors then any other metal in the world, four times better than copper. Time, money, and extreme heat and pressure are important parts of the presses in creating a diamond.

A. To create a diamond, you would first have to find carbon from deep inside the earth. Then heat it to about 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, and finally apply 750,000 pounds of pressure per square inch. Luckily

1. Synthetic diamonds tend to be more clear and more valuable.
2. The color of the diamond can also be altered using specific elements such as nitrogen, which makes yellow diamonds, or hydrogen, which creates purple shaded diamonds.

A. A diamond can almost be worthless if not cut right, this is why you need lots of time, skill, and patience to have the job of cutting them, this job is called
