Should Creatine Supplements Be Regulated? I believe that creatine should be regulated, to a certain degree. Creatine should not be for sale for those who are under the age of 18, schools should have the right to either regulate or prohibit the use by their athletes, and any other athletic events and teams should have the same right.
If people really want to compete and win in sporting events, they shouldn’t need any sort of steroid to help them, they need to work hard to reach their goal, just like how most people achieve what they want in other areas. Not only is it unfair but it’s also dangerous. As mentioned in the article, abuse of the supplement can result in liver and kidney damage. Some may say as a counterargument to this point is that there are negative side effects when abusing any type of supplement or drug, but those side effects mentioned in the previous sentence are only from overuse. Creatine has negative side effects even when using the correct dosage, such as dehydration, gastrointestinal distress, and muscle damage. Dehydration is a result from creatine because it makes the muscles in the body absorb more water that is usually used in other parts of the body. There are also no valid studies on the long-term effects that creatine has. These reasons alone should cause a restriction on creatine, especially for people under the age of 18.
Creatine supplements should definitely be regulated by age, and also schools and athletic teams should have the right to regulate or prohibit it’s use.
