“Crazy Sunday” follows Joel, a screenwriter who is new to the world of Hollywood. One Sunday Joel is invited to a party hosted by his actress friend Stella and her husband Miles Calman. At the party, Stella tells Joel that Miles cheated on her with her best friend and she is confused on how to deal with her pain. Joel realizes his loves the beautiful actress. Stella calls Joel to keep her company while her husband is away. Joel arrives and Stella gets a call, informing her that Miles had died in a plane crash. Stella is distraught and Joel understands that Stella truly loves Miles despite his dishonesty. Stella and Miles have the same delusion about their marriage: it's a film. Much like their shared work in film, this relationship was filled with lies, deceit, and betrayal for the …show more content…
Miles even admits to Stella that he is jealous of the attention Stella gives to Joel:
“I was jealous of Joel this afternoon when you sat on the arm of his chair” (Fitzgerald, 25)
Miles is very insecure and fears that Stella will stray from him or try to get revenge. Stella’s tactics are working. We also learn that Joel is not the first man she has used to make Miles jealous. "Miles is so jealous of me that he questions everything I do," she cried scornfully. "When I was in New York I wrote him that I'd been to the theater with Eddie Baker. Miles was so jealous he phoned me ten times in one day." (Fitzgerald, 24). Even when Joel questions Stella she avoids the question. Stella doesn’t want Joel to know she is using him, in fear that he will leave or that his love for her will end. She loves Miles but she also loves the attention she gets from Joel. “I have a strange feeling that I’m a sort of pawn in a spite game you’re playing against Miles,” he said. To which she replied, “Help yourself to a drink.” (Fitzgerald, 39)
Miles tells Joel that he is seeing a psychoanalyst to talk about why he cheated on
