Firstly, i don't agree that children should be reading due to the drugs, sex, and vulgar language. Reading the reviews for the books Crank it is stated “parents need to know this is a free verse poetry book about a teen girls addiction to methamphetamine” (Pavao, P1). These books, you can tell just by the titles, are clearly going to include sensitive content in them. Now of course not every person in the world has tried crack, heroin, meth and these other hardcore substances so by reading these books i would hope that it would keep individuals away from these life ruiners, although it can be taken from a different perspective. These books might be able to cause wonder for those who have never tried a substance. Just about anything in this world can have a positive effect or a negative effect and coming from these books that negative can be the opening up the drug world to someone who doesn't know better. Even though the lessons are clearly stated throughout the tragedy in the books not everyone can take it that way. There will always be people in this world whose minds are opposite from normal… take it as you see it but the drugs used as examples are evil and will ruin you. The possibility of recovering addicts to be triggered while enjoying these books is low but everything still has a possibility… reminiscing about their own stories that have to do with the drugs might relate to the novels Crank, Glass and Burned by Ellen Hopkins. Ellens books hit closely to her, her book Crank is a touch-base story about her daughter that has recovered from addiction. People who have read Ellens books have complained that maybe they should be censored… in response Ellen says that they are only misinformed. (Hopkins, P1) They are meant to feel so real and at home so the reader relates more closely to the story and maybe it will even scare them away. Ellen states “it is so hard to watch someone
