The hypoglossal nerve supplies motor fibers to all muscles of the tongue except for the palatoglossus muscles. The palatoglossus muscle is innervated by the vagus nerve. If there is loss on one side of the tongue, also known as unilateral paralysis, the tongue will point to toward the affected side.
